Where to Stay Near the National WWII Museum

You don’t even have to leave the National WWII Museum campus to find a lovely place to stay. The Higgins Hotel New Orleans, Curio Collection by Hilton is steeped in history from its 230 era-inspired guest rooms and specialty suites to its rooftop bar inspired by Rosie the Riveter. The neighboring Central Business District (CBD) neighborhood also has great options, including unique stays at a boutique hotel like the Ace or the Virgin. Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans offers a luxury stay and sweeping views of the New Orleans skyline and is about a 15-minute walk from the museum.

Things to Do Near the National WWII Museum

While the National WWII Museum is a destination in and of itself, there are plenty of other museums and attractions just outside their doors. The Ogden Museum of Southern Art and Contemporary Arts Center are both less than one block from the National WWII Museum. Both offer seasonal and permanent exhibits as well as special after-hours events. The New Orleans Culinary and Hospitality Institute is a professional cooking school that opens its doors to guests for enthusiast classes, such as “The Cheese of Spain.” Shop the galleries of Julia Street and take home a one-of-a-kind New Orleans souvenir. Stroll towards Uptown to find Merchant House, an eclectic furniture shop, and Dirty Coast, a spot for t-shirts and gifts. Just around the corner from the museum is the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar which can take you further downtown or all the way Uptown to Audubon Park.

Where to Eat Near the National WWII Museum

There’s no shortage of dining options around the National WWII Museum. Within the museum campus, there’s American Sector and Rosie’s on the Roof. But nearby are some of the best eats in NOLA. Mr. Wolf Espresso and French Truck are two spots for that afternoon pick-me-up. Magazine Pizza is around the corner from the museum, and Bearcat nearby is famous for their “good cat/ bad cat” breakfast and lunch. Strolling around the Arts District, you’ll find lots of dinner options: Pêche for fresh Gulf seafood, Sofia and Gianna for Italian cuisine, Carmo for Latin American eats, and Meril by Emeril Lagasse.

Lots of watering holes exist in the Arts/Warehouse District around the WWII Museum. Sidecar Patio & Oyster Bar has sub-tropical cocktails and raw bar specials on Wednesdays.
