What is the Allstate Sugar Bowl?
Since 1935, the Sugar Bowl Classic has hosted many of the best coaches, players, and teams in college football history. Fifty-one Hall of Fame coaches have paced the sidelines of the Sugar Bowl, while 19 Heisman Trophy winners and countless All-Americans have shown their skills in this New Orleans event.
The 2024 Allstate Sugar Bowl served as a College Football Playoff Seminal game, hosting two of the top four teams in the country, Texas and Washington. The game was decided on the last play as Washington won, advancing to face Rose Bowl Champion Michigan at the CFP National Championship Game in Houston, Texas.
The 2025 Allstate Sugar Bowl participants will be decided in a new format. The Caesars Superdome and Allstate Sugar Bowl will host an inaugural College Football Playoff Quarterfinal matchup as part of the newly expanded 12-team College Football Playoff. One of the participants will be one of the four highest-ranked conference champions; the other team will be decided from a first-round playoff matchup.

When is Allstate Sugar Bowl?
The Sugar Bowl is held annually on either December 31 or January 1 – a perfect way to ring in the new year! This year’s game will be held on January 1, 2025.
Which teams will play in the Allstate Sugar Bowl?
Georgia is in! The Georgia Bulldogs will face the winner of the College Football Playoff First-Round Game between Indiana and Notre Dame (Friday, December 20, 7 p.m., ABC and ESPN).
Typically, the bowl game hosts the champions of the Southeastern and Big 12 conferences, however, the 2025 and 2026 games will serve as the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals in the newly-expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff.
What are the pre-game events?
The major event surrounding the game is the Sugar Bowl Parade. The parade rolls the day before the game through the French Quarter along Decatur Street, beginning on Elysian Fields. The Parade is scheduled to pass the WDSU main stage on Decatur Street inside the Jax Brewery parking lot, where WDSU will set up for live coverage of the parade. The WDSU broadcast will also be available online for out-of-town fans to enjoy all the excitement.
Fans attending the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, are invited to converge on Champions Square at Caesars Superdome to enjoy the NewOrleans.com Allstate Sugar Bowl Tailgate Town hosted by New Orleans & Company, the official pre-game party. Gates open at 4 p.m. for Tailgate Town while the Allstate Sugar Bowl is scheduled to kick off at 7:45 p.m. NOTE: Fans must have a Sugar Bowl game ticket to access Tailgate Town.
