In the wise words of my grandmother, cooking with anger only seasons your dishes with bitterness. But at Good Catch, every bite is a testament to what happens when a meal is made with love. It's hard to single out one dish from a menu that swept me off my feet. This place is a dream for those who adore Thai food with a twist and aren't shy about a seafood-centric palette. Imagine a Pad Thai reimagined with glass noodles, tender Gulf shrimp, and succulent scallops. Or the Ocean Treasures, a dazzling array that’s practically swimming in a spicy house chili, basil, and garlic sauce. Leaving Good Catch, you'll be wishing for a bigger belly, but remember to save a sliver of space for the Thai Milk Tea Crepe Cake. And skipping the Nam Tok Moo during happy hour? Now, that would be sheer madness!

The Surf & Turf Sushi Roll! Wrapped in soy paper, this sushi roll features truffle-infused lobster and white asparagus, all topped with sumptuous Wagyu beef. It's smoked over woodchips–a technique that makes this roll unforgettable—and it's been living rent-free in my head since I first tried it! Morrow Streak is the latest gem in Larry Morrow's family-owned chain of establishments, each offering a unique world of flavors. But this creation, right here, is truly a dream roll for me!

One of my favorite things about New Orleans as a city is that it offers some of the most elevated culinary experiences without an ounce of pretentiousness. I can think of no restaurant that better exemplifies exquisite dining with a casual, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere than Saint-Germain. Not only was this 10-course tasting menu the best thing I ate last month (literally I couldn’t pick just one thing), but it’s earned a spot in the top five meals of my life. Saint-Germain, from the outside, can only be described as non-descript. Situated on St. Claude Avenue right on the line between the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods, Saint-Germain is housed is an aged, white double shotgun with minimal signage. If you didn’t know it was there, you could easily walk right by it (and I have). The non-descript nature of this restaurant ends at the exterior, however, because the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with warm hospitality – as if you were stepping into the foyer of an old friend’s home for dinner. The tasting menu itself is a masterpiece of culinary craftsmanship, with a dedication to fresh, local ingredients and innovative techniques that shine through each course. And do not sleep on the optional wine pairing. The experience really comes together with exceptional service and care. I walked away from the meal in a state of euphoria, blown away by the team at Saint-Germain and the entire experience from beginning to end. It’s a meal I won’t soon forget.

I’m a lover of East Asian cuisine, and when the chance popped up to try Yo Nashi’s omakase dinner, I absolutely couldn’t miss. Between the freshness and flavor of every course (made with almost entirely locally sourced ingredients), the simple-yet-elegant presentation made this dining experience unlike any I’ve had before. You also get the personal experience of speaking with the chefs, as all the cooking is done right behind the counter!

Mister Mao is one of those restaurants that became an instant favorite the first time I ate there back in 2022. It’s been a go-to for date nights, friend dinners and pre-Tipitina’s meals, and it pretty much always has a place on every NOLA recommendation email that I send to friends, family, or former coworkers looking for guidance on where they should eat when they come to town. The atmosphere itself just feels fun, the service is always outstanding, the drinks are delicious (and have hilarious names–here’s looking at you, Uncle Butthead), but most importantly… the food. The food is amazing. You really can’t go wrong, especially if you’re into spice, but the dishes that are non-negotiables for me include the Kashmiri Fried Chicken, the Pani Puri (I’m not being hyperbolic when I say that I would drink the accompanying fire water with a straw), and the Brussels Bhaji. There are a lot of seasonal changes in the menu, but those three (or variations of those three) are always present and ALWAYS a good idea.
