Loyola University New Orleans Receives Nearly $460,000 in Public Safety Funding
Louisiana Senate President Cameron Henry visits Loyola to present funding supporting campus and community safety
NEW ORLEANS – September 15, 2026 — Loyola University New Orleans welcomed Louisiana Senate President J. Cameron Henry Jr. to its Uptown campus on September 8, 2026, where he presented the university with $459,500 in funding to support public safety initiatives through the Loyola University Police Department.
The funding will support Loyola’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety on and around its campus, benefiting both the university community and its surrounding neighborhoods. Potential uses include upgrades to police radio systems, protective vests, and support of emergency preparedness exercises. To enhance transparency and strengthen investigations, an investment will be made in body-worn cameras. Other possible uses include operational readiness to improve mobility to patrol the University and surrounding areas with increased efficiency and response times.
“This funding is about public safety Uptown, and it will help both the Loyola campus and the surrounding community,” Senate President Henry said.
During his visit, Henry met with Loyola President Xavier A. Cole, university leaders, and members of the Loyola University Police Department before touring the campus.
“We are deeply grateful to Senate President Henry for his support of Loyola and his commitment to the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and neighbors,” Cole said. “Loyola is proud to call Uptown New Orleans home, and this investment strengthens our ability to care not only for our campus community, but also to contribute to the safety and well-being of the community that surrounds us.”
Henry has served in the Louisiana Senate since 2020 and currently serves as president of the Louisiana Senate. He represents Senate District 9, which includes portions of Jefferson and Orleans parishes.
