Gospel Showcase Followed by New Orleans Hornets Day

(New Orleans, La.)  - Hallelujahs and hoops will be center stage at Get Yah Praise On and New Orleans Hornets Day at Audubon Zoo on Saturday February 23, which promises to be a full-day of fun for the entire family.

In celebration of Black History Month, Get Yah Praise On presented by The Bardell Company gets things started as international gospel great Bishop Paul S. Morton Jr., returns to deliver a special, soul-stirring performance on the Capital One Stage at 1:15 p.m.

The 5th annual gospel music showcase also will feature the finalists of a special casting call who will share original gospel songs and favorite hymns beginning at 11 a.m. The performers - Aisha Boyd, Kim Che're, Chiara Williamson Gray, Jonte' Thomas and Kimberly Sky Wright - will vie for prizes, including a coveted slot on the program for the Soul Fest at Audubon Zoo on March 3.

After the hand-clapping and soulful singing is over, Zoo visitors can stay to enjoy New Orleans Hornets Day, which tips off at 2:30 p.m. with appearances by players, games and performances.

New Orleans Hornets Day will feature several activity stations, including the Bookmobile, Pop-A-Shot, Bee Fit Zone, Bee Hive Hair Salon, Hornets drum line and an appearance by members of the Honeybees dance team. Hugo, the team mascot, also will be on hand for photographs.

Get Yah Praise On and New Orleans Hornets Day are included in regular admission to Audubon Zoo, which is $17.50 for adults, $12 for children 2-12, and $13 for seniors 65+. Audubon Nature Institute members are admitted free of charge. For information, visit www.AudubonInstitute.org or phone (504) 581-4629.
