Allstate Sugar Bowl Sponsors Cross Country Classic on Saturday
NEW ORLEANS – The Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic will be held this Saturday (October 13) in New Orleans City Park. The event will feature nearly 1,000 runners competing at the high school varsity, sub-varsity and freshman levels. The starting line for the City Park Cross Country Course is at the corner of Harrison Avenue and Diagonal Drive in the heart of City Park. Admission is free.

8 a.m.: Girls Freshman (2 miles) – scored and awards to top 10
8:30 a.m.: Boys Freshman (2 miles) – scored and awards to top 10
9 a.m.: Girls Varsity (3 miles) – scored and awards to top 20
9:10 a.m.: Freshman Division Awards Presentations
9:30 a.m.: Boys Varsity (3 miles) – scored and awards to top 20
10 a.m.: Girls Sub-Varsity (3 miles) – scored and awards to top 10
10:10 a.m.: Varsity Division Awards Presentations
10:30 a.m.: Boys Sub-Varsity (3 miles) – scored and awards to top 10
11 a.m.: Sub-Varsity Awards Presentations
Schools can enter a maximum of seven runners in the varsity-level races, while there are unlimited entries in the sub-varsity and freshman divisions. The freshman division will include seventh, eighth and ninth graders (all runners must be eligible to compete in a high school event according to LHSAA or respective state association rules).
Of the nearly 1,000 entries, nearly 400 are high school varsity runners from 44 different schools.

A cross country team consists of seven runners per school. The first five runners from each team to finish will determine that team’s score. The overall place in the race of each runner determines the number of points that runner scores for his or her team. For example, first place equals one point, second place equals two points etc. Adding the finish places of a school’s first five (out of seven) finishers will determine that school’s team score. The team with the lowest score wins the meet.
The mission of the Allstate Sugar Bowl is to sponsor and promote amateur sporting events which will foster revenue and spark economic growth in the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. Through its year-round slate of nearly 60 events, the organization has generated over $2.5 billion of economic impact for the city and the state in the last decade alone.
