NOLA by Day: Tuesdays in New Orleans

How to Spend a Tuesday in NOLA

Having the Tuesday Blues? Go on out and eat some tacos for Taco Tuesday or visit some of New Orleans' best museums.

Where to Eat on Tuesdays in New Orleans

In the mood for tacos? Head down to Taqueria Corona on Magazine Street for some fish tacos, ribeye carne asada tacos, enchiladas, cheese quesadilla, and ceviche. They’re open daily beginning at 11:30 a.m. Or you can take in the scene along Freret Street on the patio at Val’s, with a menu that includes green mole chicken or crispy beef belly tacos. For more excellent taco options, see our guide to outdoor tacos and margaritas throughout New Orleans.

In the mood for something else? Head down to the Bywater/Marigny neighborhoods to explore the food scene there. Pizza-Delicious offers draft beer, wine, and aptly named DELICIOUS pizza (plus pasta and salads).

In the mood for Art and food? At New Orleans Art Bar you can enjoy a divine cocktail while admiring some artwork. Their hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Or you can check out Capulet’s happy hour with food specials like fried chicken or tofu sandwiches, fries, and a number of drink specials. At Capulet, you can also enjoy live music performed daily from Monday to Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Visit Museums

New Orleans has tons of incredible museums and cultural attractions, and weekday visits–especially early in the week–offer an opportunity to view collections with considerably less crowds. Visit Ogden Museum of Southern Art, for some interpretation on visual arts and culture of the American South, or check out Backstreet Cultural Museum, to see the most comprehensive collection related to New Orleans’ African American community-based culture and traditions.

Hear Some Music

You can find music every single night of the week in New Orleans, and there are some very solid choices for Tuesday nights. There are regular Tuesday night shows, like Meschiya Lake at Spotted Cat or Rebirth Brass Band at the Rabbit Hole (although always check ahead to make sure a regular performer isn’t touring). And venues like Bacchanal, The New Orleans Jazz Museum, and Bayou Bar always offer live music on Tuesday with rotating artists. To see who’s playing during your visit, check out the WWOZ LiveWire calendar here.
