Esplanade Ridge History
From the Degas House to other historic buildings, Esplanade Ridge has so much to explore
Esplanade Ridge, a designated historic district in New Orleans, originally served as a trading outpost for Native Americans. As more Europeans came to the area, the tree-lined neighborhood began to fill up with “country homes” along Bayou St. John. Wealthy Creole families also called this district home and built the grandiose mansions still present on Esplanade Avenue today.
