Live music is 24/7 in New Orleans, but we’ve cherry-picked a few can’t-miss shows for the month ahead. From jazz to hip hop, local to national artists, here are five shows to catch this January.

January 6 is cause for celebration in New Orleans: it’s the official kick off to Mardi Gras. One place you can ring in the season is King Cake Hub with king cake and music all day long at Zony Mash Beer Project. The Funky Uncle All-Stars kick it off bright and early, and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux & the Golden Eagles close it out on what should be a fantastic start to the Carnival season.

Located right in the center of all the action on Bourbon Street, The Jazz Playhouse is a great place to catch live music, or music with a show, in this case. Local burlesque superstar Trixie Minx is back in residency for an evening sure to delight. Romy Kaye will provide vocals at each show. Catch it January 7, 14, 21, and 28.

New Orleans’ funk, hip hop, spoken word, and soul band Tank and the Bangas are back in the Orpheum Theater to create an entirely new musical experience with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. If Mozart isn’t quite your speed, give this show a chance - you won’t be disappointed. The performance is January 14.

The time has come for the great Sir Elton John to grace the New Orleans stage again. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour originally scheduled for 2020 is finally here, with the concert set for January 19. You’ll surely want to catch this legend for what may be his final performance in this city.

The Radiators stop by Tipitina’s for not one, not two, but THREE nights of shows this January. Kick back and enjoy this funky local band as they rock the house January 13, 14, and 15. Single tickets are available, as well as a three-day pass.
