Anna 4 Paws To Equip Bayou Region Law Enforcement with Life-Saving K9 Trauma Kits and Advanced Medical Training

HOUMA, La. – June 8, 2026 – Anna 4 Paws, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the medical safety of working canine teams, today announced an upcoming major donation of specialized canine first aid equipment and comprehensive pre-hospital care training to four Bayou Region law enforcement agencies. The canine units of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, Houma Police Department, and Thibodaux Police Department are the latest beneficiaries of the organization’s ongoing mission to protect the dogs that protect our communities.

Working canines face unique hazards in the line of duty, from heat exhaustion to severe trauma. To ensure handlers are prepared for worst-case scenarios, Anna 4 Paws will provide each unit with specialized field trauma kits containing critical supplies such as TacMed K9 tourniquets, NAR Hyfin chest seals, and K9 Quik Litters.

Beyond the equipment, the agencies will participate in hands-on, pre-hospital care training led by Dr. Margaret Trumble DVM, owner and operator of Avenue Animal Wellness + Emergency in New Orleans. Utilizing an advanced K9 medical simulator, K9 Viktor, and actual canines, handlers will train to quickly assess injuries, control severe bleeding, and stabilize their canine partners in the field during the critical minutes between point of injury and transfer to highcare at a veterinary emergency center.

“Our working dogs put their lives on the line for us every single day, and they deserve the highest standard of care when things go wrong in the field,” says Adrian Thompson, veteran law enforcement officer with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and Founder of Anna 4 Paws. “By equipping handlers in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes with both the right trauma gear and the hands-on training to use it under pressure, we are making sure these teams have what they need to bring their K9 partners home safely.”

This initiative is part of Anna 4 Paws' broader mission, which aims to bridge the gap in specialized medical resources for K9 units across the country. Community members interested in supporting future training events or funding additional trauma kits can contribute through the organization's Club 65 recurring donation campaign.

Members of the media are invited to the training on Wednesday, June 10th, after 1pm, at 2636 Savanne Road in Houma, La. Detective Thompson, Dr. Margaret Trumble, Anna 4 Paws Medical Director, the canine unit supervisors and representatives from local veterinary hospitals will be available for questions and comment during the event.
