Winter Weather in New Orleans

Statement from Walt Leger III, President and CEO of New Orleans & Company, the official destination marketing and sales organization for the New Orleans tourism industry

Updated: Friday, January 24, 2:00 p.m. CST

New Orleans & Company continues to partner with all city and state officials on a strong unified response to the historic 8-10 inches of snowfall in New Orleans on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Cities throughout Louisiana and the Gulf Coast of the U.S. received record-breaking snow as well. Normal operations are quickly resuming in New Orleans’ hospitality industry today. Flights are departing and arriving at the Louis Armstrong International Airport. Restaurants, shops, and cultural institutions are re-opening as quickly and safely as possible.

We salute the hard-working crews who are clearing the streets of snow and ice, including downtown sidewalks near hotels that are full of visitors. Thank you to numerous hotel partners who stepped up and made significant progress, not just in front of their properties, but also along other major corridors. Talk about Built to Host!

We are also grateful for support from the Downtown Development District, their contractors, and IV Waste in the French Quarter who have worked over the last day or so to clear the streets and sidewalks. The work continues.

The sun is shining for the third consecutive day today, and thanks to temperatures in the 40s, the snow and ice are continuing to melt. The New Orleans forecast calls for above-freezing temperatures on Friday and throughout the weekend, so melting will continue.

The NADA Show is underway and well attended, as well as preparations for Super Bowl LIX. We are excited to continue welcoming attendees to the NADA Show who have demonstrated just how excited they are to come to New Orleans through their persistent efforts to travel during this unprecedented winter weather.  New Orleans is Built to Host and successfully managed this rare snowfall event.  We look forward to welcoming you as well!
