Convention Center District Development Project
Live, work and play on the Mississippi River! The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center has embarked on an ambitious new venture that will revitalize the City's riverfront. The project sits on 47-acres of land upriver from the existing building from Poydras Street to Henderson Street.
New retail, residential and entertainment components will essentially create the newest neighborhood in this iconic 300-year-old city and connect the Warehouse/Arts District to the Central Business District and historic French Quarter creating a cohesive experience for visitors and residents.
The first phase of the five-year capital improvement plan is construction of the pedestrian Park and multi-modal transportation hub.
Construction Update
Initial construction has begun to transform Convention Center Boulevard into a lushly landscaped public park. This new pedestrian park will span 7.5 landscaped acres along Convention Center Boulevard, featuring interactive water elements, live event spaces, public art installations and shaded gathering places. The park will also provide access to the multi-modal transportation hub and a safe pathway for meeting attendees, facility staff and residents to move up and down the Boulevard.

Functional and safety improvements are also being made to the adjacent street creating better traffic flow and access for shuttles, taxis and ride shares with the Transportation Center. This phase of the project is expected to reach completion in early 2021.
