Dumpstaphunk is one of the Crescent City’s premier, hard-driving, funk bands on the today’s scene. Ivan Neville founded the group in 2003 as a one-off Jazz Fest band, but the group’s explosive popularity soon turned it into a full-time, world-touring force.

Dumpstaphunk was born out of the same deep New Orleans rhythms that generated The Meters and The Neville Brothers. Ivan Neville, son of singer Aaron, built his vocal chops and B-3 organ prowess amidst this fertile environment. Dumpstaphunk also includes groove guitar master Ian Neville (son of Art), but while the cousins present a solid front, it’s the rhythm section that gives Dumpstaphunk its incendiary grooves. The twin bass towers of Tony Hall and Nick Daniels III provide a double attack matched in the pocket with drummer Alvin Ford, Jr.

It didn’t take long for the world to sit up and notice. The New York Times called them “the best funk band in New Orleans,” while Rolling Stone dubbed them “one of New Orleans’ most prestigious funk ensembles.” In 2014, Dumpstaphunk was voted Best Funk Band by readers of both Offbeat and Gambit magazines.

The group began touring, and today can be heard at major venues and festivals across the country, including Bonnaroo, VoodooFest, High Sierra, Gathering of the Vibes and, of course, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Amidst their busy touring schedule, the group has released numerous CDs, with guests ranging from Ani DiFranco and Flea to Trombone Shorty and Art Neville. Their 2021 release Where Do We Go From Here? includes the notable title cut and the crowd favorite “Itchy Boo.”
