Historic Accommodation Application
Goals
We want visitors to be able to experience historic hotels that have maintained authenticity, sense of place, and architectural integrity.
Criteria
- A hotel structure must be at least 50 years old
- Designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark or listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places
- For a property to be eligible for the National Register, it must meet at least one of three National Register main criteria. Information about architectural styles, association with various aspects of social history and commerce, and ownership are all integral parts of the nomination. Each nomination contains a narrative section that provides a detailed physical description of the property and justifies why it is significant historically with regard either to local, state, or national history. The three National Register of Historic Places criteria are the following.
- Criterion A, "Event," the property must contribute to the major pattern of American history.
- Criterion B, "Person," is associated with significant people of the past.
- Criterion C, "Design/Construction," concerns the distinctive characteristics of the building by its architecture and construction, including having great artistic value or being the work of a master.

Process
- Complete and submit the form below. There is a maximum of 10 questions.
- When forms are submitted, we will review them.
- If approved, we will notify you and add the historic tag to your listing. If denied, we will reply and provide reasoning for the decision.
When an applicant is not officially designated as a National Historic Landmark or Historic Place, we reserve the right to include or exclude any property based on the 3 criteria listed above where the decision is subjective.
