In New Orleans, music is a powerful universal language that speaks to the soul. Each spring, the Sacred Music Festival focuses on the spirituality behind music. Held at the New Orleans Healing Center in Bywater, this one-day event is free. The New Orleans Sacred Music Festival is a volunteer run-and-produced music festival. The goal is for people of all backgrounds, cultures and traditions to share their voices through music, chants, prayers and ceremonies.
The festival focuses on the healing and uplifting qualities of sound and seeks to promote cross-cultural understanding within the Greater New Orleans community. There is a peace walk and Buddhist workshops along with the performances.
Previous performers have included Vogindra Vandana Dasa (Brahmin Priest of Vaisnavism), Sean Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band, Deacon John and Cynthia Girtley (Gospel Diva).
