Wednesday at the Square is a springtime tradition in New Orleans. Free entry, live music, an art market, and 17 food vendors all on a Wednesday evening really helps us get through the week. Below is a sample of the food you’ll find at this year’s Wednesday at the Square (WATS). Remember, the menu is subject to change, so go and check it out for yourself.
Seafood
There’s plenty of seafood options throughout at WATS–it is peak crawfish season, after all. Enjoy Seaworthy and Josephine Estelle’s crawfish rolls or a tray of boiled crawfish from Tiger's Creole Cuisine. Indulge in Plates Restaurant & Bar’s signature dish, the “Day After the Boil” with crawfish, potatoes, and andouille. They’ve also got a smoked tuna dip and a grilled cheese sandwich with white cheddar, goat cheese, and tomato jam on sourdough.
Soul food
Dive elbow deep into some good ol’ barbecue from Cochon King. No stranger to seafood, there may also be fish, shrimp, and crawfish on the menu. Fressence offers your choice of steak, chicken, or vegetarian panini. Add a side of Creole potato salad or fruit ceviche to your order. Over at Akasia’s Café booth, try the swamp dip, jambalaya, or ghetto burger. U Pizza has cheese and pepperoni pizza slices. Bub’s is the place for smashburgers. Enjoy blackened chicken or shrimp remoulade sliders at Paw Paw's, plus custard-filled brioche donuts.
International Flavors
At Que Pasta you’ll find Latin American cuisine like pupusas, sandwiches, and flan. Paella Nola puts a local twist on the traditional Spanish dish with their “New Orleans paella.” Crêpes à la Cart has tomato, basil, and mozzarella crêpes, banana and Nutella crêpes, and more!
A little something sweet
Sweet doesn’t necessarily mean pure sugar; enjoy a naturally sweet smoothie or refresher from Fresh Fruit Sensations. Of course, if you want a sugar rush, go for a sno-ball from Imperial Woodpecker. Froot Orleans is another vendor offering fresh fruit drinks, while KD's Nola Treats specializes in beignets.
Many of these vendors have brick and mortar businesses or pop-up at additional spots around town. For more information on Wednesday at the Square and the list of vendors, see here.
