September 22, 2016, New Orleans, LA - The historic Astor Crowne Plaza - New Orleans French Quarter, situated at the corner of world-famous Canal and Bourbon Streets, has undergone a dramatic transformation following a $13 million renovation that combines modern elegance with a touch of old New Orleans.

All of the hotel's 700 rooms underwent a complete facelift, with modernized interiors that convey a new and lighter feel. Lighter tones and more effective use of natural light are vibrant improvements while local accents such as carpeting designed with iconic wrought iron shapes and framed vintage skeleton keys are beloved nods to old New Orleans. Full-scale changes such as all new carpeting, furniture, lighting fixtures in guest rooms and hallways have completely revitalized this grand hotel which dates back to 1852. Meeting spaces and hallways were also refinished with new carpeting, paint and wallpaper. The lobby features three dimensional maps of the City of New Orleans by noted artist Gregor Turk and are an interesting and fun way for visitors to learn their way around the Big Easy.

"New Orleans is an original and so is the Astor Crowne Plaza - New Orleans French Quarter," said Andrew Done, the hotel's director of sales and marketing. "Our goal was to give the Astor updated interiors that reflect the best of the Big Easy - graphic patterns, soothing shades of warm gray and pops of classic NOLA ‘purple' modernize the interiors yet subtly remind guests of where they are. Guests will love this transformation - it feels like a new hotel on the inside yet we've preserved the history and traditions that are the heart and soul of the Astor."

The renovation has breathed new life into one of New Orleans' oldest hotels. The Astor is comprised of two buildings, including the six-story Alexa Tower which still boasts exposed brick from the original construction 164 years ago. The remainder of the hotel occupies what once was the old Woolworth store and is also home to Dickie Brennan's Bourbon House Restaurant and Seafood Bar.

The hotel's design consultant, blackdog studio, oversaw the renovations. The hotel remained open as the renovations were phased-in over a six-month period.

From laundry service and valet parking to free Wi-Fi and 32,000 square feet of meeting space, Astor Crowne Plaza provides a rich diversity of amenities and services to make your French Quarter getaway comfortable and productive.
