“Contemporary Issues in Food & Drink Lecture Series” Presented by Domino Foods, Inc. Saturday, October 12, 2019

The Southern Food & Beverage Museum (SoFAB) in New Orleans, will welcome renowned, James Beard Award-nominated Chef Elizabeth Falkner for the 10th Annual Contemporary Issues in Food & Drink Lecture Series presented by Domino Foods, Inc. On Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 6 PM, Falkner will address the very important issue of Ending Restaurant Waste. The one-hour lecture in conjunction with the current SoFAB exhibition, 40 Chances by Howard G. Buffet – which spotlights the worldwide fight against hunger – will be followed by a reception and is free and open to the public. The timely and provocative subject of Faulkner’s addresses ways to end, or at least curb, restaurant waste. Juxtaposed against 40 Chances, she will speak to how professionals in the food and hospitality industry, as well as those who just eat out, learn how to reduce waste and often save money.

Celebrated chef, Elizabeth Falkner, is a true California girl – born in San Francisco and raised in Los Angeles. In the 1990s, she worked her way up in the kitchens of some of San Francisco’s best restaurants, later owning and operating a number of concepts until 2014. A graduate from the San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA in Film, Falkner produced two food-related short films in 2018 – Food Games-Sustainability and a documented performance piece that she performed at New York City’s SoHo House, Croquembouche Samurai.

As an advocate for people and chefs to think more like athletes and “stay fit to cook,” Falkner relentlessly participates in charity events and food festivals throughout the country. Her style of cooking encompasses both savory and sweet, traditional and modern. A life-long athlete, she became more “active” in her philanthropic efforts, running the NYC Marathon in 2016 for Team for Kids and riding 300 miles in Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry in 2019. Cooking competitions are also a favorite “sport” for Falkner, appearing on over 40 nationally televised cooking competitions and many food-focused magazines. Falkner is also on the Board of Directors of the organization of Women Chefs & Restaurateurs, serving as its President from 2014-2015 and currently from 2019-2020. Today she does recipe development and consults for numerous products and brands and lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Chef Falkner’s lecture will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 6 PM. Reception to follow at 7 PM. Attendance is FREE but requires RSVP HERE.
