Rue to reign over Krewe of BOO! Parade

New Orleans attorney Stephen Rue will reign as king of the 2019 Krewe of BOO! Parade, scheduled to roll through the French Quarter on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Rue, of Stephen Rue & Associates, was voted “Best Attorney” in 2012 in Gambit Weekly’s Best of New Orleans Readers Poll and “Top Lawyer” in 2018 in New Orleans Magazine, is the New Orleans 2019 Legal Kingfish. He was king of the Krewe of Alla in 2016 and elected Zulu’s Mr. Big Stuff for Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club’s 100th Anniversary in 2009. Rue is an active member of the Krewe of Rolling Elvi and a member of the Zulu Tramps. In addition to practicing law, he is a painter, sculptor, author and marathon runner. A graduate of Loyola Law School, he has also taught there.

The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Elysian Fields Avenue and Decatur Street and wind its way through the French Quarter, the CBD and into the New Orleans Arts District, ending at Generations Hall for the Monster Mash. The parade will feature more than 15 floats and more than 30 marching krewes.

The Monster Mash, the official after-party of the Krewe of BOO!, is a ticketed costume event and will feature JT and the Ka-Nection and local DJs.

The third annual two-mile New Orleans Zombie Run kicks off the day’s events at 9 a.m. at Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant, where it will also end. Participants are encouraged to come dressed as a zombie or their favorite
monster. The Big Easy Rollergirls, New Orleans’ women’s flat-track roller derby, will join as zombie killers to chase race participants along the route.

“The Krewe of BOO!will again seek to reduce parade waste that ends up in landfills by primarily throwing New Orleans-made food items and local collectible objects that parade goers will want to consume or keep as mementos,” said Brian Kern, chief spookster for the Krewe of BOO!parade and event founder. Kern’s aim is to “make New Orleans a premier destination on Planet Earth for Halloween.”
