November is an eventful month at The Historic New Orleans Collection! Please see below for an overview of all the exciting things coming up in the next few weeks.

  • Opening reception for THNOC's new exhibition "Andrew Jackson: Hero of New Orleans"
    Tuesday, Nov. 11,
    6:30 to 8 PM
    The Historic New Orleans Collection, 533 Royal St.
    Presented in conjunction with the bicentennial of the Battle of New Orleans, THNOC's exhibition tracks Jackson's rise from humble beginnings to immortality as a war hero and president. The exhibition is on view through March 29, 2015.
  • Steamboat Stomp Opening Lecture with with Capt. Clarke "Doc" Hawley
    Followed by concert with Banu Gibson, Yerba Buena Stompers and more at Royal Sonesta Hotel
    Friday, Nov. 14

    5-6 PM Lecture - THNOC's Williams Research Center, 410 Chartres St.
    7-10:30 PM Concert - The Royal Sonesta Hotel, 300 Bourbon St.
    THNOC will host the opening event for the Steamboat NATCHEZ's second annual Steamboat Stomp. Capt. Clarke "Doc" Hawley, former steamboat captain and first master of the NATCHEZ, will take the audience through the history of jazz on the steamboats of the Mississippi River in an animated presentation. A jazz concert at the Royal Sonesta Hotel will follow the lecture and will feature performances from Banu Gibson, Yerba Buena Stompers and Don Vappie and Evan Christopher's band "Jazz a la Creole."
  • The twelfth Les Comédiens Français Lecture, "Hommage à Jean-Philippe Rameau"

    The Historic New Orleans Collection joins the international music community to celebrate the life and music of Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) on the 250th anniversary of his death. 
  • Concerts in the Courtyard with Luke Winslow King
    Friday, Nov. 21,
    6 to 8 PM (Doors open at 5:30 PM)
    The Historic New Orleans Collection, 533 Royal St.
    THNOC's Concerts in the Courtyard offers a fun, casual way to kick off the weekend with live outdoor performances by Louisiana musicians in the picturesque setting of The Collection's courtyard.
  • Screening of "These Amazing Shadows," presented in conjunction with the exhibition "From Cameo to Close-up: Louisiana in Film"

    THNOC's free seven-part film series presented in conjunction with the exhibition "From Cameo to Close-up: Louisiana in Film" comes to a close Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10:30 a.m., with a screening of "These Amazing Shadows," which chronicles both the history of American cinema and the creation of the National Film Registry, which preserves more than 600 American films.
