Delta Air Lines, the 2014 Airline of the Year (Air Transport World recognition), was founded in 1924 and was one of the first air carriers to serve New Orleans when the airport was first opened for commercial service in the late 1940s. The airline travels to over 300 global destinations with 10 non-stop destinations from the New Orleans market.
"I am very pleased that Delta Air Lines has identified the opportunity to provide scheduled service to Cancun for the New Orleans market," said New Orleans Mayor, Mitch Landrieu. "We believe this new route will have great success."
"Delta has been a long-time partner with our airport," said New Orleans Aviation Board Chairwoman, Cheryl Teamer. "We have always appreciated their confidence in New Orleans."
"This additional service to Cancun by Delta is a great win for our community," stated New Orleans Councilman Jared Brossett, Chair of the Transportation and Aviation Committee.
Iftikhar Ahmad, Airport Director of Aviation said, "The addition of this non-stop route to Mexico gives our community another great opportunity to travel with ease to this popular international destination."
