WHY: The Historic New Orleans Collection's spring Concerts in the Courtyard series continues Friday, May 17, with Latin band Mas Mamones.
Nominated for a 2013 Big Easy Award, Mas Mamones has been playing Latin jazz and dance music since 1994. Over the band's nearly 20-year history, the mission has remained the same: to play authentic Latin music featuring rhythms from the Caribbean islands and Central and South America. The group was formed by singer Manuel Lander of Caracas, Venezuela, and bassist Andrew Wolf, who had been performing with Orquestra Ritmo out of Lansing and Detroit, Mich. Michael Skinkus (congas/vocals), Derek Douget (tenor sax/vocals) and Eduardo Tozzatto (keyboards/vocals) will also perform.
In addition to the performance, the May concert will feature Herbsaint Frappes provided by the Sazerac Company family of brands-a leading U.S. spirits supplier, with the world's most decorated distillery and a portfolio of award-winning brands. Three complimentary drinks are included with admission. The locally based office supplier Associated Office Systems, or AOS, is the event sponsor for the spring 2013 series.
The Historic New Orleans Collection is proud present its sixth season of Concerts in the Courtyard. Since 2008, these events have offered a fun, casual way to kick off the weekend. Each show features live outdoor performances by Louisiana musicians, cocktails, and extended hours to visit the shop and the first floor of the current exhibition.
Mark your calendars for the final show of the spring 2013 Concerts in the Courtyard season:
- June 21: Helen Gillet with Praline Liqueur cocktails provided by Sazerac
