The historic Longue Vue House and Gardens, a world-class house museum surrounded
by eight acres of stunning gardens, is welcoming New Orleans son, cultural ambassador,
and renowned artist, Jamar Pierre, as the 2018 Artist-in-Residence. Chosen by The
NOLA Foundation to create artwork for the official Tricentennial Celebration print titled
Resilience, Pierre is bringing over 20 years of experience and a lifetime of passion for
sharing the spirit and culture of the city to Longue Vue.

With creative expression and life-long learning around social justice and community
responsibility being at the center of Longue Vue’s mission, Pierre’s dedication to
developing art-based educational programs for students of all ages is a complementary
force in honoring the Crescent City’s 300th anniversary. Over the course of the year,
Pierre is teaching workshops for children, adults and families, holding two exhibits, and
participating in Longue Vue’s community and philanthropic programming.

“My goal is to help our youth become more balanced and culturally aware citizens of the
world. New Orleans’ uniqueness should be treasured, and through my work with the
youth, it can continue to be a treasure that we can share with the world.”-Jamar Pierre

Pierre’s first exhibit at Longue Vue will open in May of 2018, and he along with Longue
Vue art programming, and art education will be honored at Longue Vue’s new annual
gala, ArtVue on the Avenue in August 2018. His studio will be open for visitation,
purchasing art, and creative conversation.

“Our legacy was built on supporting the Arts and education in New Orleans, for New
Orleans. We are living that legacy as we reinvigorate our art education program with
Jamar as our Tricentennial Artist-in-Residence. A local gem, much like Longue Vue,
Jamar has an incredible talent – his work is vibrant, dynamic and engaging. Longue Vue
is committed to making art – and art education - accessible to children, adults and
families and we are honored to partner with local artists like Jamar Pierre.”- Maria
Pote, Executive director of Longue Vue House and Gardens

In addition, Longue Vue is also selling two sizes of Pierre’s Tricentennial Celebration
print, Resilience, depicting the iconic history and resilience of New Orleans. The prints
