(New Orleans, La.) -  Celebracion Latina, the local festival of Latin American culture, returns to Audubon Zoo on Sunday, October 12, 2014

The popular, family-oriented event presented by the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Audubon Zoo has hosted the party since 2010.

Celebracion Latina features live music, children's activities and Latin cuisine prepared and sold by New Orleans area restaurants. Local artisans also will sell handmade crafts, and local social service and education organizations will be on hand.

Children can create their own souvenirs at a special arts and crafts tent and community partners including Catholic Charities, the Center for Public Service, Puentes and the New Orleans Public Library's Pebbles Center will provide social service and wellness information.

A full-day of entertainment is scheduled for the Capital One stage and field, including headliners Ovi-G and the Froggies.

Celebracion Latina is staged with the support of Jefferson Financial Credit Union, Pan American Life Insurance Group and MetroPCS. WWNO radio will serve as media sponsor for this year's celebration.

While enjoying the festivities, Audubon Zoo visitors can stroll the exhibit that highlights Central America. Jaguars, spider monkeys, macaws and other animals from the region are displayed in a setting dotted with reproductions of ancient structures from Copan and Chichan Itza.

Festival activities are included in regular Audubon Zoo admission, which is $17.50 for adults, $12 for children 2-12, and $13 for seniors 65+. Audubon Nature Institute members are admitted free of charge. No outside food or beverages allowed in Audubon Zoo.

Audubon Zoo is located at 6500 Magazine Street.  For more information, visit auduboninstitute.org or call 504.581.4629
