ONE11 has changed the hotel scene in New Orleans with its debut as the French Quarters’ first new hotel in over fifty years. Balancing history and heritage alongside innovative design, the new hotel celebrates the vibrancy of New Orleans’ multi-layered past. Enhancing an already booming local dining scene, ONE11 Hotel is home to Batture Bistro + Bar, a sleek and casual hub for craft cocktails and small bites.
The Vieux Carré, as the French Quarter is also known, is an 85-block area of New Orleans dating back to the early 1700’s when the city was founded by French explorers. ONE11 is the first new hotel allowed into the Vieux Carré district since the 1960s. Evoking the nostalgia of an era bygone, it is located in what was once the heart of the New Orleans sugar processing industry. ONE11’s original building structure was formerly home to The Louisiana Sugar Refining Company.
The boutique hotel captures the essence of the region by enabling guests to engage with the city’s culture through local culinary talent and artisans. Refined, warm and brimming with rich history, ONE11 features 83 thoughtfully-appointed guest rooms and suites across 8 stories. A nod to the building’s storied past, three “sweets” draw business and leisure travelers seeking space and luxury; this includes the one-of-a-kind, two-bedroom, two-bathroom Riverbend Sweet; located on the eighth floor, it features two private terraces with seating and a wet bar. Accommodations are complemented by an incredible swimming pool and courtyard with an outdoor fireplace, and a vibrant rooftop featuring panoramic views of the French Quarter and Mississippi River.
Rooms boast ample natural light, exposed brick and embody a tailored simplicity. Guests soak in unparalleled views of the Historic French Quarter and Mississippi River. Spacious bathrooms are appointed with glass showers, back-lit mirrors and Malin + Goetz bath amenities. Each room features a wall-mounted 55’ PureHD TV with streaming and casting options. With high ceilings, original beams, unexpected textures, colors and lighting, ONE11 rooms blend both history and modernity, offering a fresh respite for travelers. For guest convenience, secure, on-site and self-service parking is available at a rate of $45 per day. ONE11 has partnered with One Canal Place Downtown Fitness Center, located just across the street, to offer exclusive free access for guests.
TPG Hotels & Resorts, in a joint venture with local real estate firm, Tchoupitoulas Partners, reinvented the formerly-dormant property with a distinctive, ‘New-Stalgic’ modern-luxury concept that showcases and celebrates the building’s historic elements inside and out, while incorporating a trendy and modern design crafted with contemporary attributes and chic finishes. Celebrated NYC-based interior design studio, dash design, whose recent portfolio includes Olon, Urban Farmer and Hotel Commonwealth, is responsible for ONE11’s design.
Commenting on the hotel’s opening, General Manager Nikki Ritzenthaler noted, “We are incredibly inspired by the history of our building, and the spirit and creative culture of New Orleans. From top to bottom our goal is to deliver a guest experience that is authentic to the city, and that will also delight and surprise both local residents and visitors. Having a remarkable F&B team, Batture Bistro + Bar is the perfect complement to ONE11. We are delighted to finally share this one-of-kind property with all who are curious to discover it.”
Batture Bistro + Bar offers a casual, sleek spot to meet for drinks and a bite in New Orleans’ storied French Quarter. Located on the first floor of ONE11 Hotel, the restaurant’s décor is cozy with soft lighting and a mix of plush seating amid exposed beams and brick walls. The vibe is contemporary historic with existing architecture overlayed with polished additions. Diners enjoy alfresco dining at Batture during warmer months on the Loading Dock with a full view of the French Quarter. For all-season dining, The Loading Dock provides a climate-controlled floor-to-ceiling view of the Quarter and passers-by. Batture Bistro + Bar is operated by Messina’s Catering and Events, experts in the food and beverage industry that has serviced New Orleans for over 60 years. Batture’s daily menu features breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour; with brunch served on the weekends. The restaurant’s culinary style can be described as “sophisticated comfort food,” with a creole twist and a playful nod to the area’s history in sugar production. All-day dining options include the likes of Assorted Artisan Flatbreads, alongside small-plates like the Boudin Egg Roll with Cajun Aioli and a Charcuterie Board featuring local cured and smoked meats.
ONE11 offers a range of options for private events and weddings, making the hotel one of the most sought-after venues within The French Quarter. From several room blocks to booking out an entire floor or more, the hotel’s modern accommodations and charming, well-appointed common areas make it easy for groups to stay together. ONE11’s team offers customized trip planning including organizing incentive trips and executive stays. In terms of meeting space, the hotel offers beautiful settings for intimate group events. Afternoon cocktails on The Loading Dock, or an evening in the incredible Penthouse overlooking the French Quarter and Mississippi River.
Located at 111 Iberville Street, ONE11 Hotel’s brand ethos and identity were born from its home in the former Louisiana Sugar Refining Co. (later purchased by the American Sugar Refining Company). The building was the center of all manufacturing for the once-massive Sugar District. In 1908, the American Sugar Refining Company moved, and 111 Iberville was converted to warehouse use for a number of companies, including Krauss Department Store until the mid-1960s. In 1946, a city ordinance excluded the blocks that formed the Sugar District from the French Quarter. As a result, the buildings were outside the preservation jurisdiction of the Vieux Carré Commission. Much of the former Sugar District property was converted for use by Jackson Brewing Company, which had a brewing operation and occupied land from Jackson Square to Bienville Street. Many of those buildings were subsequently demolished. 111 Iberville is one of four buildings from the Sugar District era that remain today fronting the Mississippi River from Iberville Street to Jackson Square.
ONE11 Hotel and Batture Bistro + Bar’s original brick walls, columns, and wood beams were incorporated in the restoration. Most of the original architectural elements contained in the building remain and are exposed to hotel guests. The roof deck, penthouse suites, heated pool and courtyard were added to ONE11’s original structure. This is original to the building.
With polished additions that juxtapose existing and historic architecture, the contemporary space embodies distinctive flavor all its own, drawing discerning global travelers who seek the beautiful wonders of New Orleans within an authentically aspirational, and artfully hip upscale setting.
The hotel is in a prime location, allowing convenient access to all of the region’s major transportation hubs including Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (just a 25-minute drive). Located within the French Quarter, ONE11 is the perfect home base for a New Orleans getaway—endless shopping, world-renowned dining, nightlife and access to the city’s best cultural attractions are all within reach. A hop on New Orleans’ historic streetcar allows guests to explore unique neighborhoods and districts at their leisure.
