Hotel Monteleone Commemorates 130 Years of Hospitality, Service and Community

New Orleans, LA - Known as the "Grand Dame of the French Quarter," the Hotel Monteleone has proudly stood as a symbol of hospitality and luxury since 1886. As it looks back on 130 years in 2016, the Hotel Monteleone celebrates that the community has made the iconic New Orleans landmark beloved by tourist and locals alike.

The Hotel Monteleone will kick off its 130th year celebration this spring by honoring its literary roots with the release of New Orleans Literary Landmark, Hotel Monteleone. Written by Susan Larson, Alexandra "Riki'" Collier and Phillip Collier with forward by Richard Ford, the compilation details the Hotel Monteleone's role in the lives and works of several beloved writers. It also pays tribute to the Hotel Monteleone's status as one of three American Hotels designated as a Literary Landmark by Friends of Libraries USA. Upon its release, New Orleans Literary Landmark, Hotel Monteleone will be available for purchase at the Hotel Monteleone's gift shop adjacent to the lobby.

During the course of the year, the Hotel Monteleone will continue to commemorate its storied history through a variety of special events and partnerships with local community organizations. As the Hotel Monteleone is a pet friendly establishment, plans are underway to host a Puppy Happy Hour at the Carousel Bar & Lounge to benefit the Louisiana SPCA this fall. The Hotel Monteleone will also showcase its long standing sponsorship of the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots with the return of its Betting 101 workshop for individuals interested in learning the basic rules of betting on horse races.

Over the years, the Hotel Monteleone has taken great pride in maintaining a high level of quality and service to its patrons. In fact, the Hotel Monteleone was the first hotel in New Orleans to be equipped with air conditioning in 1930 and its iconic rooftop sign has been a staple of the New Orleans skyline since its installation in 1954. More recent updates include the highly anticipated opening of the Royal Salon this summer, an upgraded wifi system in all Hotel rooms, the opening of Criollo Restaurant in 2013 and the expansion of the Carousel Bar & Lounge in 2011.
