New Orleans, LA (June 25, 2018) – Fan-favorite comedians Kym Whitley and David A. Arnold will headline and Emmy-Award winning actress, author and comedian Sherri Shepherd (“Trial and Error,” “Jean of the Jones,” “Soul Man”) will host the inaugural “Lipstick ‘N Laughter” comedy special on Thursday, July 5th at the Joy Theater in New Orleans.  Held during the 2018 Essence Festival, the comedy special celebrates established female comedians and offers a new platform for emerging talent.  Tickets are available at www.thejoytheater.com. Doors will open at 7:00pm, CT.

Actress, Comedian, Producer and 2017 Daytime Emmy Award nominee Kym Whitley (“Young and Hungry,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “Raising Whitley”) will have a “He Said, She Said,” comedic showdown with fellow Comedian, Writer and Actor, David A. “I’m thrilled to be part of Lipstick ‘N Laughter and to support new female comedians,” said Kym Whitley.  ‘It’s a hell of a line up of amazing, fresh talent you won’t want to miss.  You don’t want to miss me either, so get your tickets.”

The line up also features rising stars Ms. Pretty Ricki, local comic Geneva Joy, a founding member of Black Girl Giggles, and NOLA's own Maija Di Giorgio, to round out a night of laughs.

Additionally, Black Girls Giggles, a New Orleans based collective of African-American comedians who are building a diverse comedy community of color, will showcase their comic routines during a pre-show held from 7:30p -8:00pm, CT.

Lipstick ‘N Laughter is a hub for the fresh, funny voices of women comics of color to reach an underserved market of comedy lovers.  With women composing only 25% of U.S. comedians and women of color having even less of a presence on stage and as comedy writers, Lipstick ‘N Laughter offers an opportunity for established comedians and emerging talent to thrive and perform for enthusiastic audiences.  The July 5thshow will benefit IWES, the Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies, www.iwesnola.org, a national non-profit organization based in New Orleans.
