Copper Vine, the stunning restaurant by Brechtel Hospitality Group (BHG) in New Orleans’ Central Business District has recently appointed Amy Mehrtens as Chef de Cuisine. In her new role, Mehrtens has unveiled an array of new dishes inspired by the vibrant flavors and techniques of the South.

According to BHG owner Kyle Brechtel, “We are thrilled to have Amy at the helm. Chef Mike (Brewer) still remains heavily involved in all things BHG and is currently transitioning to lead our newest venture Bonfire Catering. Chef Amy will be responsible for menu development and overseeing culinary operations at Copper Vine.”

Mehrtens’ inventive new dishes include Pork Belly & Corn Fried Oysters with a Crystal glaze, pickled okra, blue cheese crumbles and a buttermilk dressing; Autumn Squash & Ancient Grains with roasted apples, Hook's aged cheddar, spiced walnuts, cranberries, tender greens, and sherry vinaigrette; Center Cut Duroc Pork Chop with stone-ground grits, mustard greens, grilled grapes, whole grain mustard, and an apple cider glaze; and a Smothered Rabbit & Mushroom Fricassee with pearl onions, root vegetables and fresh thyme, served with a buttermilk biscuit. Diners can also enjoy the Chef's Daily Muse – a blind food and wine pairing created from Mehrtens’ secret menu ($10 for food; $10 for wine).

Mehrtens’ passion for cooking began at a young age. Growing up with a mother who was a Chef and a father in the military gave her the opportunity to learn about many different cultures and cuisines around the world. Born in Germany, with several years in Japan, Mehrtens has also lived in California, Virginia, Georgia, and Iowa and continues to travel frequently to collect first-hand culinary education and gain inspiration. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and a certified introductory sommelier, Mehrtens has over a decade of experience in the service industry, including Sous Chef at Commander’s Palace and Interim Executive Chef at Café Adelaide.
