Marigny behind the Allways Theatre and Lounge (2240 St Claude Ave, New Orleans, LA 70117) and the Jefferson SPCA welcome The Amazing Acro-Cats to New Orleans, LA, December 5-21, 2014. Tuna and the Whole Gang will celebrate Christmas feline-style. Cat lovers of all ages are delighted as these extraordinary cats stretch and show-off their talents with flair. There will also be a special appearance by The Rock-Cats, managed by Tuna, playing seasonal carol selections such as "A Cat in a Manger", "Catnip Roasting on an Open Fire", "God Rest Ye Merry Kittens" and "Twas the Night Before Catmas." Adult tickets are $19. Tickets for kids 12 and under are $16.
The one-hour show features over a dozen fabulous felines - all former orphans, rescues, and strays. For this holiday special, the Acro-Cats push a snow sleigh, shop for holiday gifts, jump through wreaths, balance on ornaments and more. NOLA, the newest addition to the troupe and named in honor of The Big Easy, will charm and enchant you with her stage energy and musical ability. We also have a new celebrity in the troupe, Alley, who was recently awarded Guinness Book World Records title for longest jump made by a cat - but wait there's more! Tuna, the star of the show, is the leader of the ONLY CAT BAND IN EXISTANCE - The Rock Cats. With NOLA on guitar, Dakota on drums, Nue on keyboards, and Sookie on chimes - Tuna (who plays a mean cowbell) and her backup band really strut their stuff with their own style of original music. Cluck Norris, a chicken, on cymbal and tambourine, isn't "kitten" around - she usually steals the show!
Samantha Martin, Chief Executive Human (CEH for short) for the Amazing Acro-Cats, challenges the idea that "cats can't be trained." Tuna and the Whole Gang are REAL house cats who have learned and polished their stage skills through clicker training, a training method that focuses on positive reinforcement. These cats aren't just stage stars, they are also movie stars! When not purr-forming in the Acro-Cats shows, you can see them strut their stuff in television commercials and advertisements such as the recent Target commercial.
The Jefferson SPCA is the Acro-Cats' shelter partner for our New Orleans purr-formances! Martin advocates adoption from local shelters and rescue organizations and works with them in many ways - particularly by taking adoptable cats on the tours, making the Acro-Cats' Tour Bus a mobile fostering unit. Over the past four years, Martin has purr-sonally found homes for over 149 cats and kittens and continues to take cats and kittens in need and help them find their fur-ever homes.
