Argentina PWC Americas Winner

NEW ORLEANS, LA - Wednesday, June 12, 2024 - On June 11,  the Americas selection of the Pastry World Cup, organized by GL events took place for the first time in the United States of America in New Orleans. Argentina, represented by Matias Dragún (chocolate candidate) and Lucas Carballo (sugar candidate), won the Americas Selection of the Pastry World Cup and closed the  intense day of competition that brought together 6 of the most talented duos from the American continent. Paraguay and Colombia complete the podium, respectively 2nd and 3rd, and  qualify, with Chile who received a wild-card, for the Grand Final of the Pastry World Cup, which will be held on January 24 and 25, 2025 during Sirha Lyon.

After coming in 3rd place in the last Americas selection in 2022, Argentina, represented as two years ago by Matias Dragún and Lucas Carballo, wins this 2024 Americas selection. The team stood out to the jury by creating a buffet on the theme of natural elegance. Among their creations: a frozen dessert combining fresh flavors of pineapple, raspberry and lychee; a revisited cheesecake with raspberry and pistachio; and a restaurant style dessert called "Wild essence" combining an intensely flavored chocolate soufflé with a mango-banana compote for an exotic touch.

During 5 hours and 30 minutes, the 6 teams had to create 3 frozen desserts with fruit purees, 3 pastry pieces, 8 restaurant style desserts integrating chocolate, 2 artistic pieces (one in sugar and one in chocolate) and a buffet incorporating all these creations. At the end of the day, Pierre Hermé, Ewald Notter and Gilles Renusson, President of the competition, Honorary President and President of the Americas selection of the Pastry World Cup 2024, as well as all the members of the jury, rewarded the teamwork and technical skill provided by these 3 teams, validating their ticket to the Grand Final in January 2025.

“The general level of work provided by the teams is extremely satisfying. Bringing teams from all over the continent together, here in Louisiana, is an incredible opportunity to see all these different ways of working, mixing all these different culinary cultures” said Ewald Notter, Honorary President of this selection. “I have a lot of respect for all the work that the candidates have done, the courage to expose themselves, and to have to convert months of training in such a short time, to be on the spot. As a former winner, I also want to tell them to persevere, to work hard and withstand criticism to achieve their dreams” he concludes.
