The French Quarter Galleries are a collection of galleries that use original artifacts, interactive technology, and immersive video to bring audiences through the development of the French Quarter, and the various communities of people that lived there.
One gallery has an interactive word cloud that provides a brief overview of topics covered in the exhibition. The cloud is tied to sensors throughout the gallery. As visitors interact with different objects or words, the cloud updates.
Another gallery features an immersive film projected on four walls. The French Quarter by Night, developed by Michelle Benoit and Glen Pitre of Côte Blanche Productions, is a 17.5-minute journey through the development of the French Quarter. The film takes viewers from the time before the natives settled, to a modern night at the Krewe de Vieux parade.
The French Quarter Galleries are open Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, the galleries are open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The French Quarter Galleries are located at 520 Royal Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
The French Quarter Galleries are free and open to the public, but advanced registration is suggested. To reserve tickets in advance, see here.
