The Krewe of Carrollton, established in 1924 by a group of Oak Street businessmen, holds a significant place in New Orleans' rich Mardi Gras tradition. As the city's fourth-oldest parading organization, this all-male krewe has a unique claim to fame.
Originally, its floats were crafted on the chassis of garbage wagons, showcasing the krewe's resourcefulness and creativity in the early days of parade building. Later on, the innovative krewe made history by being the first to utilize tractors to pull floats, replacing the traditional mule-drawn carriages. Another unique aspect of this parade is the throws. Among them are hand-decorated shrimp boots, adding a unique and local touch to the parade experience.
The Krewe of Carrollton follows along the St. Charles Avenue route.
