And it's been ticking death here moment-by-moment for nigh on 300 years. It's only natural that a few of those souls are left behind — souls ripped from their mortal carcasses so suddenly, or so tragically, or just so begrudgingly, that they are unable or unwilling to go to the Light. So they haunt the places of their memory: waiting, perhaps, for people and places, lusts and loves that were extinguished long ago.
