The Roosevelt New Orleans is an iconic hotel in New Orleans – a grand hotel with a history as robust and fascinating as the building itself. Tucked away on a side street in downtown New Orleans just two blocks from the French Quarter and major streetcar lines, a stay at the Roosevelt New Orleans hotel offers the ultimate New Orleans experience.
Spend just a few minutes walking through the Roosevelt's gorgeous, block-long gleaming wood and tile lobby, and you'll know why this popular New Orleans hotel is an ideal setting for glamorous destination weddings in New Orleans, romantic weekend getaways, and luxury vacations in New Orleans.
Inside The Roosevelt, luxury, history and hospitality are intertwined to make it one of the most unique hotels in New Orleans and one of the top destination hotels for visitors. From the flawlessly restored Sazerac Bar to the famous Blue Room (where luminaries like Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and Tony Bennett court) to Domenica, chef John Besh's contemporary Italian restaurant, the Roosevelt New Orleans embodies the spirit of New Orleans past and present.
Opened in 1893, The Roosevelt New Orleans gained fame for its opulent décor and world-class dining and entertainment. The Roosevelt, which was renamed The Fairmont in 1965, was a regular scene for Hollywood stars and politicos, including president John F. Kennedy and legendary Louisiana governor Huey P. Long, who maintained a suite on the 12th Floor.
After extensive damage during Hurricane Katrina, the property remained closed until The Fairmont was purchased and renovated into a Waldorf Astoria Collection property to the tune of $170 million and reopened in 2009.
The Roosevelt has 504 non-smoking guest rooms, including 135 suites. Luxe touches in each room include 300-thread count sheets, flat-screen televisions, and mini-bars. Room service is available 24 hours a day. The Roosevelt has more than 60,000 square feet of meeting space, including three ballrooms and 23 meeting rooms.
Points of interest in The Roosevelt New Orleans Hotel:
- The Sazerac Bar's beautifully restored Art Deco murals depicting New Orleans street scenes by mid-century modernist Paul Ninas. Order a famous Ramos Gin Fizz at the bar – it was Governor Huey P. Long's favorite drink.
- The Blue Room, a sumptuous banquet room that once hosted the city's top entertainment. Sunday Jazz Brunch is served in the Blue Room from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Teddy's Café, a light, modern café in the hotel lobby. The perfect stop for coffee and a snack, or people-watching. (Keep an eye out for celebrities staying at the Roosevelt during months-long film shoots in New Orleans.)
- Domenica, chef John Besh's homage to rustic Northern Italian cuisine. The restaurant's bargain-priced Happy Hour special on pizzas, wine and cocktails is a favorite with locals.
- The Guerlain Spa, one of only three in the United States. Treat yourself to luxury spa treatments and massages at this award-winning spa.
- The Winter Wonderland display. Every holiday season, the block-long lobby of the Roosevelt New Orleans is draped in a canopy of white birch branches covered in hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights. It is a breathtaking vision and holiday tradition that locals and visitors flock to annually.
