Travelers from outside the United States get a great bang for their shopping buck in New Orleans, a tax-free shopping zone that refunds a portion of the 10 percent sales tax to international visitors. Offered statewide at all 900-plus retail members of Louisiana Tax Free Shopping (LTFS), including big names like Saks Fifth Avenue, Best Buy, Macy’s, Gucci and Coach, the savings is also passed on by small locally owned galleries and boutiques. How do you get your refund? Show your passport and ask for an LTFS voucher at time of purchase, save your receipts and redeem for cash (under $500) or by check (refunded by mail) at one of three places: Louis Armstrong International Airport , The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk or Macy’s at Lakeside Shopping Center.
