Culture in New Orleans is thriving - see a show at a historic theater or another venue.
Opera, ballet, classical music, theater and even comedy have found grateful audiences in the Paris of America since it was a French colony. The curtain went up on the first documented opera in New Orleans in 1796 and on the first ballet in 1799. Our theater history is rich as well. Le Petit Theatre off Jackson Square was founded in 1916. There are ghosts in that theater who know the lines to every show. Comedic acts are becoming more and more popular in our city.
New Orleans is a city of grand theaters and historic concert halls, as well as impressive museums with programs designed to enrich and entertain.
