The Krewe of Red Beans, founded in 2009, is known for its homemade red bean mosaic costumes, a tribute to New Orleans' beloved culinary tradition of red beans and rice, typically enjoyed on Mondays. This krewe's Red Beans parade is part of a post-Hurricane Katrina revival of DIY Carnival processions in downtown New Orleans, celebrating Crescent City's resilience and unique culture.
The Krewe of Red Beans typically parades through the Bywater starting near Marigny Opera House. The Krewe of Dead Beans parades through the Bayou St. John neighborhood starting near Pitot House. The Krewe of Feijão is an offshoot of Krewe of Red Beans and joins that parade in the Bywater. Eventually, all krewes meet up to form one big parade at Backstreet CulturalMuseum in Tremé. See here for more informationand head out to these neighborhoods on Lundi Gras Day to see the walking parades.
