Jon Batiste, Trombone Shorty Academy OfferPerformances for Museum Sponsors The New Orleans Jazz Museum’s inaugural Improvisations Gala fundraiser takes place from 7-10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the museum at 400 Esplanade Ave. The event includes an exclusive party for museum patrons, featuring performances from CBS “Late Show” bandleader Jon Batiste and Trombone Shorty Academy. All proceeds from the gala benefit the Jazz Museum’s musical and educational programming, as well as its mission of promoting jazz worldwide as a historically significant musical art form. The gala begins at 7 p.m. with the exclusive Patron Party. In addition to private performances from Batiste, Trombone Shorty Academy and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, the Patron Party includes meals prepared by Ruth’s Chris Steak House and cocktails from Sazerac Company. Patrons also have an opportunity to have a portrait taken by renowned music photographer Curtis Knapp. The main party begins at 8 p.m. throughout the Jazz Museum’s galleries and campus. In addition to cuisine from several of the city’s best restaurants, guests can take part in a silent auction and enjoy a live painting demonstration by artist Emilie Rhys. Jazz clarinetist Evan Christopher and other acclaimed local musicians will provide entertainment. Through a partnership with the Arts Council of New Orleans, the lighting artists of LUNA Fête will transform the Jazz Museum’s historic architecture into a visual playground of light and art. “We’re so excited to debut our inaugural Improvisations Gala and spotlight the creative communities of New Orleans, combined with the educational, artistic and inspirational aspects of improvisation,” says Jazz Museum Director Greg Lambousy. “There’s no better way to do that than showcasing New Orleans artists. We invite everyone to come and experience a night of incredible food, music, dance and visual art.” Tickets for the main gala are available to the public, starting at $60. Early-bird tickets are available now at a discounted rate through Nov. 15. Gala sponsorships begin at $250 and include Patron Party admittance. For more information on tickets and sponsorships, visit the museum at nolajazzmuseum.org/gala. All questions about the gala should be emailed to gala@nolajazzmuseum.org.
