
The award-winning Zion Harmonizers have been singing gospel (spreading the Good News) together for more than 60 years. They were trained in the style of a traditional gospel quartet by Alberta French Johnson, leader of the world-renowned all-women’s gospel group the Southern Harps and aunt to founding member Benjamin Maxon. Over the years the personnel has changed a little and the Zion Harmonizers have added some hot instrumentalists, but they still rely heavily on the old-time a cappella style, using four-part harmonies to get their message through. This concert is produced by French Quarter Festivals, Inc. in partnership with New Orleans & Company as part of the official Holidays New Orleans Style campaign. It takes place at the historic St. Louis Cathedral in the heart of the French Quarter. FQFI’s holiday concerts are free and open to the public, generally running for one hour.
