Conference for Bereaved Parents, Grandparents, and Siblings is Coming to New Orleans in July The Compassionate Friends 47th Annual National Conference, an event that offers inspiration, support, and connection for those grieving the death of a child, grandchild, or sibling, is coming to New Orleans July 12 – 14. This 50-year-old national non-profit provides support to parents, grandparents, and siblings grieving the death of a child, grandparent, or sibling of any age. The annual conference brings together over 1,000+ individuals from across North America in a supportive setting with others who truly understand the devasting loss of a child, grandchild, or sibling. Attendees find renewed hope and support as well as tools, information, and strategies for coping with grief. Attendees make connections, find inspiration, and receive support and understanding. Lifelong friendships are formed and deepened each year at TCF conferences. Unique and cherished highlights of the conference include a Saturday evening candle-lighting program, small group sharing sessions, inspirational keynote addresses, and over 100 break-out sessions providing educational information. Attendees can find coping strategies through the Healing Haven, tokens to remember loved ones at the Butterfly Boutique, ways to express grief at the Crafty Corner, and unique items at TCF’s Silent Auction. This weekend of inspiration, sharing, and learning all culminates in a community-wide event held on Sunday morning, the Walk to Remember, where conference attendees and community members are invited to walk and carry signs together to remember their precious children, grandchildren, and siblings. This year’s conference is being held at the New Orleans Marriott located on Canal Street in the heart of New Orleans. New Orleans’ resiliency in the face of tragedy, rich traditions of remembering those who have died, and ability to find ways to rise from the devastation of loss make New Orleans the perfect location for this hopeful and supportive event. The Compassionate Friends exists to provide highly personal comfort, hope, and support to bereaved parents, grandparents, and siblings; and to help family, friends, community members, and professionals better understand the impact of grief and how to help those who are grieving.
