Sunday, May 10 is Mother’s Day, and we’ve rounded up a few ways to celebrate the special women in your life. Order a meal, created just for the occasion, from a local restaurant, or shop local and gift mom with candles, chocolates, and other creations made here in New Orleans. Participate in a virtual cooking class, or try out a new cookbook recipe. We’ll be spending Mother’s Day at home this year, but that doesn’t make it any less special.

Things to Do (from home)
Bring a little NOLA into your home
Tune into Cooking In Quarantine from the New Orleans Culinary and Hospitality Institute for a special Mother’s Day cooking class. This special class, taught by NOCHI Baking & Pastry Arts instructor Zak Miller, will feature sweet brunch treats to make the day special. Feel free to include the littles—the menu is kid-friendly—or, if your mom’s quarantining away from you, register for her separately so the two of you can share the experience (and eat together afterward). The class will take place Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m. and is free to experience.

Some of the best memories are made in the kitchen, and The Mosquito Supper Club cookbook reminds us that behind every great meal lies a great story. Dive deep into author Melissa M. Martin's Cajun recipes from a disappearing bayou. Paired with beautiful imagery, the recipes are staples from her own table, like Louisiana Lump Crab Cakes, Oyster Bisque, and Ponchatoula Strawberry Pie.
Spice up any meal with flavor from Brigtsen’s. With a unique blend of herbs and spices specifically made for fish and shellfish, as well as a vegetable seasoning blend, just a pinch of these will add a kick to mom’s next meal.
Gift Cards to Local Shops and Restaurants
There’s no better way to show love to mom these days than with a gift card to her favorite restaurant or shop. You’ll be planning to make time for her in the future – and be supporting local businesses at the same time.
