No existing place in New Orleans preserves more of her magical and haunting flavor than her courtyards. See the New Orleans of old through the eyes of Laura Locoul (1861 - 1963), a Creole woman and plantation mistress who kept a journal of her family's life in the historic French Quarter. Walk through locked doors, and, surrounded by the stillness of tropical plants and cobblestones, step into the mysterious and remarkable lives of five generations of one New Orleans family. See this Creole world come alive and tragically dissolve as they struggle through changing society, civil war, the birth of jazz and the Americanization of their city. Based on Laura's memoirs, some 5,000 pages of legal documents from the National Archive in Paris and records from Senegal, relive her compelling stories of passion, devotion, rejection and denial.
