NEW ORLEANS - Tiffina' Bennett's scored her only four points in the final 70 seconds to lift the Blue squad to a 33-29 victory over the White in the annual University of New Orleans women's basketball Blue-White Game at Lakefront Arena on Friday afternoon.

With the score tied at 29, Nicole Holmes forced a steal and passed the ball to a streaking Bennett for the go-ahead basket to make it 31-29. Rachele Monroe forced a steal on the ensuing White possession, leading to another Holmes to Bennett scoring opportunity to produce the final score.

DENVER - Denver jumped into first place in the Sun Belt's West Division with a 3-1 (25-22, 29-27, 17-25, 25-19) victory over the University of New Orleans on Thursday night at Hamilton Gym.

With the 2009 season rapidly approaching, confidence is high for both the UNO Privateers and Lady Privateers basketball teams.

Third-year men’s head coach Joe Pasternack has a positive outlook for the Privateers this year, as they try to rebound from a 2008 season that fell short of expectations. Last year the Privateers struggled in the Sun Belt Conference with a 6-12 mark.

However, the Privateers were able to earn impressive wins against in-state opponents such as Southern, Tulane, Loyola and Louisiana-Monroe.

DENVER - With destiny in their hands, the University of New Orleans can take some large steps toward a Sun Belt Conference West Division championship when they hit the road to contest Denver on Thursday at 7 p.m. and North Texas on Saturday at 1 p.m.
