Puckett leads all scorers with 22 points; Wave commits season low six turnovers

Greenville, N.C. - The Tulane Green Wave rallied from a 12-point second half deficit to tie the game at 61-61 on a three-pointer from junior Asim McQueen with 2:19 remaining, but East Carolina hit eight straight free throws to come away with a 69-66 victory in the Conference USA opener for both teams in front of 4,928 at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

aubrey_indians_plate.jpgFor Michael Aubrey, 2008 was a break-through year. He earned a promotion to the majors, being called up by Cleveland on May 16. He made his major league debut on May 17. If he plays for the Cleveland organization in 2009, it figures to be in the minors.

The Indians have designed Aubrey for assignment, removing him from their 40-man roster to make room for veteran pitcher Carl Pavano, whom they signed earlier this week.

byu_qb.jpgTulane football has traded in a national power for another prominent program and a guaranteed television appearance in 2009.

The Green Wave has scratched Alabama and will instead face BYU on September 12 in the Louisiana Superdome. Tulane agreed to release Alabama from the schedule to ESPN, which has set up a game between the Crimson Tide and Virginia Tech on September 5 in Atlanta.

He has been named to the All-Louisiana College Football first team. He has been invited to participate in the Senior Bowl. Now, Neworleans.com Sports has learned that Tulane tackle Troy Kropog of Archbishop Rummel High School has been invited to participate in the NFL Combine February 20 through 26 at Indianapolis.

tulane_timmons.jpgTulane opens its 14th season of Conference USA competition at Greenville, South Carolina against East Carolina tomorrow night at 6 p.m. The Green Wave will have to go with freshman guard Kendall Timmons, who will miss the game with a rib cartilage injury.

Timmons has started four games for Dave Dickerson, averaging 5.4 points per game.

Kropog, Thevenot claim fist team honors; Parenton tabbed to second team

New Orleans - A trio of Tulane University football players have been selected to the 2008 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana College Football Team, including senior Troy Kropog and junior Ross Thevenot who each received first team honors and senior Michael Parenton who was a second team performer.
