Drastic cuts could happen in the UNO athletic department in mid-year 2009. There is concern at UNO that the cuts could mean the possible elimination of athletics at the school.
Watching Sunday night's Carolina Panthers at New York Giants game, I realized this: the Saints are several good players and a philosophy change away from being a Super Bowl contender.
The Panthers and Giants both have outstanding offensive lines and a pair of sledgehammer backs.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see the Saints beat the Bears Thursday night.
Chicago no longer plays great defense. They are allowing 19 yards less per game than the Saints. I look through the Chicago results and see a 37-3 loss at Green Bay. The Packers are a team the Saints routed on Monday night at the Superdome.
So, I'll say the underdog Saints will win at Chicago, but still not make the playoffs.
Four game suspensions for three New Orleans Saints will be costly. Running back Deuce McAllister will get the biggest initial "hit" in the pocket book, but financial ramifications over the long term can be far more significant for defensive ends Charles Grant and Will Smith.
