My observations from Sunday afternoon Saints practice:
Craig Mortenson of ESPN was in attendance; he had a bus with his picture on the side that took up most of the media parking lot.
It was a long and hard-hitting practice lasting until 5:50 after a 3:20 start.
I don't think either the offense or defense can claim victory in the practice, but both did some good things. Drew Brees did throw his first interceptions of training camp, , getting picked off by Randall "Blue" Gay and Jabari Greer.
Brees hit Marques Colston over the middle beating Gay, and at the end of practice, hit Robert Meachem on a long touchdown pass against Porter who had tight coverage.
Mike Bell ran hard inside but did fumble once; the defense was really hitting.
On defense, linebacker Troy Evans made a fine open field tackle on Bell after a reception.
Randall Gay made a nice play blocking a pass intended for Colston over the middle.
There were some dropped passes. Reggie Bush dropped a pass down the sideline, and Devery Henderson dropped a pass on a deep out. The former LSU star had beaten cornerback Tracy Porter who had tight coverage but didn't come up with the ball.
Quarterback Joey Harrington hit Lance Moore on a well-timed 35-yard pass over the middle.
Kicker Garrett Hartley was accurate, hitting 48 and 42 yard field goals, as well as his shorter kicks. His kickoff were going to the 5 or 10 yard line but with good height and hang time.
