Become a Saint camp attracts big names, many campers

On a beautiful, sunny, warm day in Metairie, the first annual Become A Saint football camp convened on Monday.
Sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and run by FCA New Orleans chapter director Dr. Benny Jones, along with NewOrleans.Com/Sports, the camp features expert football instruction for campers from sixth through eighth grade.
Instructors on hand Monday included Saints Hall of Fame quarterback Bobby Hebert, former Detroit Lions running back Karl Bernard, former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Torrance Small and former Dallas Cowboys trainer Phil Penn.
Many of the top high school coaches in the area shared their knowledge as well, including Billy North of John Ehret, Jabbar Juluke of Edna Karr, Elmo Steinert of Patrick Taylor Academy, Jay Roth of Rummel, J.T. Curtis of John Curtis, Steve Robicheaux of Destrehan and Lou Valdin of Hahnville.
Set to appear on Tuesday are Saints Hall of Famer Rickey Jackson, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Bubby Brister and New Orleans Saints wide receiver/return specialist Skyler Green. The camp continues through Wednesday. In addition to learning football skills, the youngsters are also learning life skills and receiving a positive message of faith testimony from the many instructors on hand
