NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Gary Gibbs, the Saints' defensive coordinator for the past three years, was fired on Wednesday — 10 days after New Orleans finished the 2008 regular season ranked 23rd in the NFL in total defense.
Coach Sean Payton called the decision difficult, saying Gibbs made many contributions to the team.
Gibbs joined the organization three years ago, after a four-year stint as linebackers coach for Dallas, where he served on the same staff as Payton from 2003-05. The Saints' defense ranked 11th in the NFL during his first season with the team.
You can call it the perfect storm. Sometimes, circumstances conspire which result in CHANGE. On such occasions, CHANGE is inevitable. Regardless of your preference or affiliation, it was virtually impossible for John McCain or any Republican to win the presidential election, given the massive economic downturn and unpopular war in Iraq.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Saints have confirmed that running back Reggie Bush had "microfracture" surgery on his left knee, a procedure that requires months of rehabilitation.
However, Bush is expected to be ready for minicamp in June.
Brees is the first Saint to win the award. NEW YORK (AP) — In a year of prolific offenses, Drew Brees stood out.
So much so that the New Orleans Saints quarterback won The Associated Press 2008 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award after nearly setting a passing record for yards.
Brees threw for 5,069 yards, 15 fewer than Dan Marino's 1984 mark and only the second time someone has eclipsed 5,000 yards passing in a season.
Quarterbacks Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints, Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts and Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals have ben named finalists for the 2008 FedEx Air NFL Player of the Year honors.
To win in the playoffs, you must first get there. Obviously, that is the challenge for the New Orleans Saints. For a second consecutive year, they are on the outside looking in with regard to the NFL playoffs. Hopefully, the front office and coaching staff were watching the opening round games of this past weekend.
It has been rumored for weeks now. He even stated during the NFL season that he would have interest in coaching at LSU. It appears that his wish will come to fruition.
A source associated with the New Orleans Saints as well as a source close to LSU tell NewOrleans.Com Sports that Ed Orgeron will leave the New Orleans Saints staff to become Associate Head Coach, Defensive Line Coach and quite possibly Recruiting Coordinator at LSU under Les Miles.
After listening to Sean Payton at his Monday press conference, I am not the least bit encouraged about 2009.
It doesn't sound like the Saints will be big players in free agency. Payton used the term "judicious" to describe the Saints approach to "acquiring other team's players."
