Following a season that saw West Monroe return to the state title game for the first time since 2005, the Rebels are looking for a new offensive coordinator. Scott Stone has resigned his position to accept a job in school administration.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, the Fontainebleau High School football job is now open. In the summer of 2007, when the position opened abruptly due to head coach Larry Favre taking the St. Tammany Parish Athletic Director position, there were many applicants for the vacancy. Once again, a plethora of coaches will attempt to land one of Class 5A's most coveted jobs.
He may be short in stature but he is long in speed and big-play ability. Catholic High (Baton Rouge) running back Marcus Thomas has verbally committed to McNeese State.
I had a chance this week to meet with and talk on the phone with several high school coaches from around the state about the recruitment of their senior prospects.
I talked to Bastrop head coach Brad Bradshaw, and he said that LSU's
Les Miles and new defensive coordinator John Chavis came by the school
Tuesday. On Wednesday, Bradshaw had visits from Oklahoma State, Auburn,
Tennessee's Monte Kiffin and Ed Orgeron and Alabama defensive line
coach Bo Davis, who once played at LSU. It seems like it is Alabama
& LSU heading down to the wire for once-in-a-lifetime wide receiver
Rueben Randle.
To many observers, he appeared to be a square peg in a round hole from the day he arrived. Fontainebleau High School will now try to find the proper fit after Gregg Hudson announced his resignation as head football coach today following an arrest on a DWI charge in Mandeville this past weekend.

Brother Martin High School Athletic Director Barry Hebert has announced that Head Football Coach Jay Pittman has resigned from his coaching duties in order to devote more time to the family business, C.R. Pittman, Inc.
On an annual basis, Louisiana produces as many recruits than any state in the United States and recently was voted the number one state for producing NFL players in the country per capita, meaning for the population of a state overall. I don't feel Louisiana ever gets the respect it deserves from the media for having so many great players come out every year for recruiting.
On the gridiron, Destrehan High School has won 29 consecutive football games and back-to-back Class 5A Louisiana State Football Championships. That, alone, would make these, borrowing a song title from Styx, "the best of times." When you add the success of former Destrehan football players in the NFL and college football, "the best of times" gets even better!
For those that follow recruiting in Louisiana or nationwide, January of every year is the month for possible de-commitments and future commitments for big-time high school football players around the country.
At this time each year, I always like to put calls in to high school coaches to see what's going on--not only for players that might sign in 2008-2009 but a preview of their team for the 2009-2010 season.
