The luncheon honors the top student athletes from football in the Metropolitan area for 2008. The awards were presented by National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame National Chairman Archie Manning.

After considering many nominees, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame and Allstate Sugar Bowl chose 23 honorees for this year. Greg Blasiar of St. Paul and Ian Fitzgerald of Jesuit were presented with $2,500 scholarships by Allstate Sugar Bowl President Richard R. Smith.

In addition, the contribution to Amateur Football Award was presented to Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Wright Waters by Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Paul Hoolahan. The Distinguished American Award was presented to Doug Thornton, Senior Vice President for SMG, which operates New Orleans Arena and the Louisiana Superdome. Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu presented the award to Thornton.
